The story behind the Space Table Symphony

Bernd Breiter (CEO of Big City Beats) is renowned for his spectacular large-scale events – such as the World Club Dome – and for a boundless wealth of extraordinary ideas. For him, not even the sky is the limit. For his latest venture, the „Big City Beats Space Club Kitchen“ (realized in partnership with the European Space Agency, ESA), Breiter originally planned to host the first-ever „Space Club Kitchen“ event in space in February 2022.
The plan was for ESA astronaut Matthias Maurer to cook a canned meal created by TV chef Tim Mälzer aboard the ISS in February 2022, sharing the experience with the world.

From the International Space Station (ISS), astronaut Matthias Maurer cooked a menu-specially developed for the occasion by TV chef Tim Mälzer – together with people back on Earth. The mission’s goal was to bring people across the globe and the astronauts on the ISS together at the same table, particularly following the difficult times of the pandemic.

To this end, the plan involved connecting via satellite with chefs and DJs from 50 major cities worldwide in February 2022, inviting them to celebrate the „Club Kitchen“ concept simultaneously with Matthias Maurer in space. However, due to the dramatic situation in Ukraine, the event was rescheduled; instead of the original plan, it took place on June 3, 2022, during the opening show of the World Club Dome – Las Vegas Edition.

What would a grand, spectacular mission be without an emotional anthem – a symphony of its own? Commissioned by BigCityBeats, Jörg Dewald (alias JD Wood) composed the „Space Table Symphony,“ the soundtrack for the „Big City Beats Space Club Kitchen“ project. The piece was recorded by David Garrett alongside the Frankfurt Radio Symphony (hr-Sinfonieorchester) and released as a short film titled „Space Table Symphony – The Movie,“ produced by Mayk Azzato.

The „Space Table Symphony“ premiered at the World Club Dome at Deutsche Bank Park. It was also released under the title „Space Table Symphony – Bernd Breiter feat.“ David Garrett & Frankfurt Radio Symphony (incl. remixes) – June 3, 2022

Due to the difficult political situation and other factors, the mission and the „Space Table Symphony“ receded into the background until June 27, 2026, when they returned to the stage at the major Greator Festival in Cologne’s Lanxess Arena as part of the Smart Rebel Convention. There, David Garrett presented the piece live to an audience of 16,000 alongside Bernd Breiter and Matthias Maurer — marking what Greator describes as the mission’s „rebirth.“
